Overview
The short version: Clautics stores everything locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. We do not collect, transmit, or have access to any of your usage data, browsing history, or personal information. Nothing leaves your device.
This Privacy Policy explains how Clautics ("the extension", "we", "us") handles data when you use the Clautics Chrome extension. Clautics is a usage analytics tool for Claude.ai that operates entirely within your browser.
By installing and using Clautics, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Data we store
Clautics stores the following data locally on your device only, in chrome.storage.local. This data is never transmitted to Clautics servers or any third party (except as described in Third-Party Services below).

No message content is ever read or stored. Clautics only tracks the occurrence of a message being sent — a count — never what you typed or what Claude responded.
What we never collect
Clautics does not collect, access, or transmit any of the following:
- The content of your conversations with Claude
- Your name, email address, or any account credentials
- Browsing history outside of claude.ai
- IP addresses or device identifiers
- Crash reports or diagnostic telemetry
- Analytics about how you use the extension UI
- Any data from websites other than claude.ai
We have no servers that receive your usage data. There is no Clautics account system. We have no way to see or access any information stored by the extension.
Third-party services
Clautics interacts with two external services under specific circumstances:
Claude.ai (Anthropic) — The extension queries Claude's internal usage API endpoints on your behalf, from within your browser, using your existing authenticated session. These requests are indistinguishable from requests your browser makes normally. Your data is subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Lemon Squeezy (Pro users only) — When you activate a Pro license key, Clautics sends that key to Lemon Squeezy's license validation API to verify it is valid and active. After validation, the result is cached locally for 24 hours. No other data is sent. Lemon Squeezy may log this request per their own privacy policy.
No other third-party services are contacted by Clautics.
Extension permissions
Clautics requests the following Chrome permissions. Each is used only for the stated purpose:
- storage — Store your usage data and preferences locally on your device
- webRequest — Detect when a message is sent to Claude (by observing requests to the
/completionendpoint) to increment the message counter - tabs — Check whether a claude.ai tab is open so the extension queries usage at the right time
- cookies — Read your
lastActiveOrgcookie on claude.ai to identify your organization ID for usage API queries - alarms — Schedule periodic background polls to keep usage data up to date
- notifications — Send browser notifications when your usage reaches your configured alert thresholds
- Host permission: claude.ai — Required to inject the floating panel and query usage API endpoints
- Host permission: api.lemonsqueezy.com — Required to validate Pro license keys (Pro users only)
Data retention
All data is stored locally and subject to the following retention windows, enforced automatically by the extension:
- Heatmap data — 7 days (Free) / up to 365 days (Pro)
- Daily message counts — 400 days, then automatically pruned
- Usage limits — Overwritten on each refresh; no historical limit data is retained
You can delete all locally stored data at any time by uninstalling Clautics, or by going to chrome://extensions → Clautics → Details → Clear site data.
Children's privacy
Clautics is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through this extension, please contact us and we will work to address it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store release notes.
Continued use of Clautics after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
